This was a
surprisingly cool find. Langosch am Main is located at the end of Fahrgasse,
where the Alte Brücke starts crossing the Main and a small square, the
Fischerplätzchen, is situated as an entrance to the Frankfurt Altstadt. Despite
being cut by major traffic arteries, this square feels surprisingly comfortable
to linger, rest and have a bite. This might be the reason why a multitude of
restaurants and cafés opened up shop around this square. Most of them seem
exceedingly popular and it is notoriously difficult to find a seat in one of
the trendy places during weekend evenings. By chance, we passed by during one Saturday
lunch time and decided to check this place out. Luckily, it was not a problem
to get a table during this time of the day.
From outside,
Langosch did not overly strike me as a nice place, yet I immediately changed my
mind after entering. The interior design is quite hip and trendy, but still
tasteful. The style is going in the industrial charm direction without trying
too hard. One wall was completely covered with wooden panels and the chic hardwood
tables with nice flower decorations drew my attention. We were greeted friendly
and the service was very attentive throughout. When looking at the menu, I was
also positively surprised by the options available. First, they serve breakfast
until 4 pm. But we felt more like a proper lunch already and checked their main
dishes. They have international cuisine like burgers and salads. But we were
intrigued by the plate of Hessian Tapas they offered. That sounded interesting
and inventive. The drink menu also showed some nice variety. I ordered a Büble
beer that I found most appropriate to accompany my German Tapas plater (albeit
not from Hessen).
Our Hessian
Tapas arrived quickly and I found it extremely inventive and original. Not
something I have seen so far. On the plate was an assortment of bits typical for
the Frankfurt/Hessen region and its usually heavy cuisine. We got different
sausages, cheeses, ham and other meats together with a pinch of mustard. The
famous regional Frankfurt dishes of Ei mit Grüner Sauce (eggs in a green herbal
sauce) and Handkäs (sour milk cheese) were also represented. It went
surprisingly well as a Tapas assortment. Everything was very tasty, delicious
cheese, great ham and salami. The Grüne Sauce was very well done and tasted
fresh and was full of herbs. Overall, it was a great idea to come here and this
one plate shared by two totally sufficed. I very much liked the inventive
Hessian Tapas and the trendy design of Langosch am Main.
