This is
possibly one of the most happening restaurants in Frankfurt offering one of the
trendiest cuisines right now. Ceviche is the national signature dish from Peru.
This is raw fish cured in citrus or lime juices. The acid of the juice changes
the protein structure of the fish, therefore basically cooking it without heat.
Ceviche got increasingly popular spreading from Latin America first to the US
and recently expanding in Europe. Frankfurt saw a small wave of new Peruvian
restaurants open recently. The one that got most attention is La Cevi, which is
located right in the middle of the hip and popular foodie district of Nordend.
I really wanted to check this one out and so my wife and I met some dear
friends for dinner the other night.
As a Peruvian
restaurant, La Cevi not only offers ceviche, but also other fish and meat based
dishes. However, the first time I visit a Peruvian restaurant, I have to test
two things: the ceviche and the pisco sour. I ordered the national cocktail
from Peru and La Cevi absolutely delighted me with a wonderful tasty version of
it. The pisco sour was so delicious that I ordered three of them in the course
of the evening. Regarding the ceviche, we decided to order multiple starters
and tapas to share in order to test the different variations on the menu.
When our main
dishes arrived, I was right away impressed by the playful presentation. The
fish was arranged with small pieces of vegetables in quite a pretty way. We got
plates of mixed ceviche, squid and also cooked salmon, which was incredibly
soft. Our various ceviche tapas in the end did not differ too much, which makes
sense because the concept is always the same. A surprising twist, was the
ceviche variation where the fish was cured in a maracuja juice. All seafood
tasted very fresh and was super soft.
Overall, it
is a great place for eating the Peruvian dish of ceviche in a modern and
relaxed atmosphere. It is definitely an exciting and interesting cuisine that
is presented at high standard by La Cevi. I would like to come back and taste
more. Not to speak of the pisco sour, which probably alone would make me want
to visit again.
