This is a
nice easy-going place to meet friends, to have a few drinks, to possibly eat a burger
in a casual environment. It is exactly what me and my wife were looking for the
other weekend. We wanted to meet some friends and thought to find a
down-to-earth place. My wife already noticed Nordlicht previously. It is
located at a street corner just opposite of Friedberger Platz in Nordend. We passed
by this place on the way to an after-work evening at the infamous market of
Friedberger Platz some time ago. In summer, Nordlicht is packed on a Friday because
of its convenient location vis-à-vis the wine market. We now visited however
during a time when there was no market and so it was easy to get a table.
The menu of
Nordlicht offers different dishes from international cuisine, most notably burgers,
schnitzel, plenty of salad options and also (other) vegetarian dishes. Nothing
fancy. The drinks menu is also quite standard and offers something for anyone. Since
we visited to have an easy chat with friends, we had a wine before ordering our
dinner. Our group, including myself, eventually ordered some burgers as the
main dishes. My choice was very tasty, had juicy meat and was served with crunchy
fries. With the burger, I thought about switching from wine to beer, which was
a good choice. The Zwickl beer came in a cool mug and in general convinced me
more than the wine of this restaurant.
Overall, Nordlicht
is a good place for a laid-back evening. The food is nothing fancy, original or
high cuisine, but down-to-earth and just fine. It is a cozy place to hang with
friends and have a few drinks.
